Replacing headlight bulbs is not a difficult task. To do so, you’ll need to remove the old headlight bulb while using caution to not touch any of the components within the headlight assembly that are connected by a circuit. Next, you’ll need to install your new headlight bulb into your replacement socket and repeat for any other high-beams or low-beam lights as required.
Before beginning this process, make sure that both the high-beam and low-beam switch is turned off (both brake lights should be on). This will ensure that you don’t accidentally activate any headlights during this process.
Once you’ve removed your headlight bulb and placed it into a safe place, use your hands to remove all bolts from around the headlight assembly.
Next, remove the front bumper cover, then insert both of your hand-held impact drivers into the headlight socket so that you can use them to remove all of the retaining clips for the headlight bulbs. Next, unscrew each bulb holder from its attachment point. Then lift out all of the bulbs with a small pair of pliers or an open-end wrench. When you have removed all of their retaining clips at this time, place them in another safe location.
Once you’ve done this, take your new bulb and place it into the headlight socket. If you’re installing a high beam, simply push the bulb in as far as it will go. Next, use your hand to line up and attach all of the retaining clips to their appropriate attachment points.
If you’re replacing a low-beam light, there may be three separate light bulbs depending on the make and model of your car. In this case, use an open-end wrench to screw in each pronged end of each bulb holder for both low beams and high beams. Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to install the headlight assembly.
At this point, carefully connect all wiring and use your hands to guide the bulb in place. Next, use your hand to line up and attach all of the retaining clips back into their appropriate locations.
Once you have done this, remove the impact driver and open-end wrench from the sockets, then use your hand to reconnect each bulb and turn both the high-beam and low-beam switch back on. If you’re installing a new bulb for a high-beam or low-beam light that’s not associated with your daytime running lights (DRL), simply attach it into place with its retaining clip after turning on both headlights.
If you’re installing a new bulb for a high-beam or low-beam light that is associated with your DRL, simply attach it into place with its retaining clip after turning on your daytime running lights. After this, you should test your new headlight bulbs. If everything works properly, reattach the front bumper cover and remove the tools from their sockets. Then reconnect your battery and head back out onto the road.
Conclusion:
If you’ve followed these steps and your high-beam or low-beam light is still not working, it may be time to consider a replacement headlight assembly instead. While this is not a difficult task, it’s important to never touch any of the components within the headlight assembly while they are connected by a circuit.
